Sound familiar?

We all know someone in our life who has struggled with mental health. Time and time again, they have tried to convince you that they are "fine" because they don't want to be a burden. They sugar coat the answer because they don't think anyone really cares about what they are going through or is willing to help.

Life can be challenging in the best of times, but the Covid-19 pandemic is really testing our limits.

Between provincial lockdowns, financial uncertainty, and the additional responsibilities of remote school, this past year is really taking a toll on our mental health.

Travel and visitation restrictions are keeping us separated from our loved ones and limiting interactions with our family and friends.

We need each other now more than ever.

Staying safe inside is making some of us feel alone, especially those that live by themselves or in long term care facilities.

Feeling isolated is taking a toll on our mental health, especially for those who already struggle with mental health challenges.

The only thing more exhausting than having a mental illness is pretending that you don't have one.

Well, I have PTSD and anxiety with a side of depression. There. I said it.

Crafting is my therapy. It allows me to nurture my creativity and escape the pressures of life and memories of a long term abusive relationship that continue to haunt me.

Along my journey of life, I have met many people from various walks of life. The one thing that everyone has in common, regardless of where you live, what your background is and who you are is that - EVERYONE has their stories.

We need to stop:

❌ The stigma of mental health issues

❌ Pretending that everything is fine

❌ Hiding behind a fake smile

Striving for perfection is an impossible task that triggers an unhealthy cycle of shame, guilt and depression.

Instead, we need to start:

✔️ Supporting each other

✔️ Learning to ask for help

✔️ Being thankful

After all, life is a journey, not a destination.

We need to learn to slow down, enjoy the little things and create our own happy moments.
